Funny People

Went out Friday night to see the new Judd Apatow movie, Funny People. I loved the 40 Year Old Virgin and the previews for Funny People looked promising. But–I was a bit concerned when I heard this movie had a very serious theme as a comedy superstar faces his own mortality.

Somehow, this movie manages to pull off the nearly impossible task of being really, really funny and actually dealing with the issue. Some of the funniest lines in the movie come as George Simmons, played by Adam Sandler uses his sens of humor to deal with his diagnosis. And that comes across as very credible. The movie slows a bit about 2/3 of the way through, but then ends strong. All in all, I highly recommend this movie.

Do not take your kids as there are a lot of sexual references and foul language. But do see this movie. It’s fun and thought provoking. Not something you see every day.
